Kelli's Biography

KELLI WILLIAMS

Written by Sarah Poisel

Note: There is not a whole lot of info about Kelli out there, so there are quite a few holes in this biography that I will fill as soon as I can.

Kelli Williams was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1970, the daughter of a plastic surgeon father, John, and an actress mother, Shannon Wilcox, who divorced when Kelli was 13. The only daughter in her family, Kelli has one brother and three half-brothers.

Kelli earned her Screen Actors Guild card as a baby by appearing in a television commercial for diapers, and by the time she was five, Kelli was already bit by the "acting bug". "I grew up around it, " Kelli has explained. "My mom is an actress. ...I would go to sets with her and... memorize other parts and rehearse them with her." As a teenager Kelli made the decision to put off pursuing a career until after she graduated from high school, limiting her acting performances to high school plays at Beverly Hills High. She vowed to devote a year to acting, and if it didn't pan out, she planned to further her education in college before trying again. However, Kelli was able to find many parts and never did return to school.

Kelli's early roles included a guest spot on the television show "Quantam Leap" and a part in the TV movie "The Case of the Hillside Stranglers" in 1989. She landed several parts on television from 1989 on. In 1993, Kelli made her feature film debut as Sunshine in "There Goes My Baby." Upon completing a guest spot on "Picket Fences" in 1996, Kelli auditioned for and won a part on a new David Kelley series "The Practice" as Lindsay Dole.

Personal wise, Kelli has been married for two years to Ajay Sahgal, a writer. Last year, eight days after production of the second season of "The Practice" wound up, Kelli and her husband welcomed their son, Kiran Ram. Kiran, Kelli said in one interview, means "Ray of Life" in India (Kelli's husband is of Indian descent). Kelli's son accompanies his mother to the set of "The Practice" daily and is cared for by a nanny while his mother works. Kelli is juggling the demands of new motherhood, work, and the fame that comes with the job. Kelli looks forward to working on a movie during the summer hiatus as well as continuing with her role on "The Practice".
